Yeah, you are right about checking the dishwasher. They packed the silverware holder that belongs to the dishwasher and I had to pay for a new one. But, I did that "X" across the drawer thing (the drawer that held the mailbox keys and appliance manuals for the tenants) and the movers still packed it. And our stuff went to 1 year military storage (no access for a year)!! After that, spouses told me to lock stuff in the car (and I guess be careful not to drive away with it).
